Seeing giant pandas in Chongqing: a practical guide to Chongqing Zoo

• Ticket: adults 25 yuan (January to November), 20 yuan in December. Children aged 6 and under, or 1.2 m and under, enter free with an adult.
• Hours: the zoo opens at 8:00 and stops selling tickets and admitting visitors at 16:30. The panda house is open 9:00 to 17:00.
• Getting there: Line 2 to Dongwuyuan (Zoo) station, Exit 1, then along Xijiao Road to East Gate 2. From Liziba it is six stops.
• Pandas: the zoo's last official count was 24 giant pandas (October 2025), and one more cub has been born since.

How many pandas does Chongqing Zoo have

In October 2024 the zoo put the figure at 23 giant pandas on display, including six sets of twins, one of the largest panda groups of any city zoo. Since then there have been new arrivals:

• Liangyue's daughter, born in 2025, turned one on 12 July 2026 and was named Wangshu.
• Mangzai gave birth to another cub on 27 July 2026. The zoo says it will arrange a public debut when the cub is ready, so you cannot see it yet.

In October 2025 the zoo put the figure at 24. It has not published a 2026 total, so this page does not give one.

Tickets and concessions

These prices come from the zoo's official ticket notice, approved by the Chongqing price bureau and still posted. The list has one admission ticket only. There is no separate panda house ticket on it.

How to buy: follow the zoo's WeChat official account, open 在线服务 (online services) and then 在线购票 (buy tickets). There are also ticket windows at East Gate 1 and East Gate 2.

When to go

• The zoo opens at 8:00. Ticket sales and entry stop at 16:30.
• The panda house is open 9:00 to 17:00, every day.
• On busy days the zoo runs the panda house one way, letting visitors in by batches.
• Check the zoo's WeChat account before a National Day visit. Over the 2025 holiday (1 to 8 October) the zoo opened at 7:30, required online booking and capped entry at 80,000 a day. The 2026 holiday arrangements had not been published as of 27 September.

Getting there

• Line 2 to Dongwuyuan (动物园) station, Exit 1, then walk along Xijiao Road to East Gate 2. This is the zoo's own directions.
• Alternative: Line 2 to Yangjiaping station, Exit 1, then Xijiao Road and Xijiao Branch Road to East Gate 1. In its holiday notice the zoo said this gate is less crowded.
• On public holidays the roads around the zoo jam and parking is hard to find, so the zoo asks visitors to use public transport.

Pair it with Liziba in one half day

Liziba and the zoo are on the same Line 2. Ride six stops toward Yudong, about 16 minutes: Liziba, Futuguan, Daping, Yuanjiagang, Xiejiawan, Yangjiaping, Dongwuyuan. The station order is from the official Chongqing Rail Transit timetable.

Also worth seeing

• Red panda cubs. Since July 2026 the zoo's red pandas have had 14 cubs. The nursery next to Tiger Hill is open to visitors 10:50 to 11:20 and 15:30 to 16:00 daily. These are red pandas, not giant pandas.
• Bird area. The raptor, tropical bird and parrot houses were rebuilt and reopened on 10 February 2026.

With seniors or children
